Standing before representatives from 189 nations, First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton delivered these remarks at the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China, on September 5, 1995. “Women’s rights are human rights,” was immediately embraced as an international rallying cry for gender equality.
As we honor the 30th anniversary of this moment, we recognize that women and girls’ equality continues to be the unfinished business of the 21st century, as even more communities are under attack in the United States and around the world.
